Pratap Bhanu Mehta, president, Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi, has been selected for this year's Dr. Malcom Adiseshiah Award, instituted by the Malcom and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust.
Unanimous choice
Trustee H.B.N. Shetty said a three-member jury, which met in New Delhi on March 29, unanimously recommended Professor Mehta out of seven nominations. The award, consisting of Rs. 2 lakh in cash and a citation, would be presented on November 21.
It is given every year to a social scientist for his/her contribution in the broad area of economics and development studies.
Mr. Shetty said Professor Mehta had done extensive public policy work. His areas of research included political theory, constitutional law, society and politics in India, governance and political economy and international affairs.
Professor at Harvard
He was a member-convener of the National Knowledge Commission and was previously visiting professor of Government at Harvard University, and Associate Professor of Government and of Social studies at Harvard. He was also Professor of Philosophy and of Law and Governance at Jawaharlal Nehru University, and has held a visiting appointment at the University of Pennsylvania.
