Police on Wednesday rescued all the ten persons including employees of Hindalco mining firm who were kidnapped by naxalites on Monday after a gunfight with the ultras in Jharkhand’s Gumla district.
“All the ten persons have been rescued unharmed near Belawar Ghati in Gumla after an encounter between naxalites and personnel of the Special Task Force,” Inspector General of Police S N Pradhan said.
A group of naxalites, led by Sanjay Yadav who recently parted ways with the CPI(Maoist), was behind the abduction and they fled the spot after mounting pressure from the police, the IGP said.
Gumla Superintendent of Police Upendra Kumar, who told a press conference on Tuesday that only eight persons had been kidnapped by the Maoists at Tetarpani and Kujam villages in that district, on Wednesday corrected the figure and said the private mining company’s one mining in charge, a supervisor and an engineer were among the ten rescued by the police.
