Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will leave for Copenhagen on Thursday to renew India’s pitch for “a balanced, equitable and ambitious outcome” at the U.N. climate summit there.
The Prime Minister’s Special Envoy on Climate Change Shyam Saran and Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh will accompany Singh during the visit to the Danish capital, said the report. India has announced that it will consider an emission intensity cut of 20 to 25 percent by 2020, but has made clear that it would not be forced into accepting binding cuts in greenhouse gas emissions.
As delegates fail to arrive at a consensus on measures to curb climate change, Indian envoy Shyam Saran had said India was working along with other countries for a good outcome in the summit. Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena, now in charge of the Environment Minsitry said Developed countries are also being pressed for transfer of financial resources and climate change friendly technologies to the developing nations at the earliest.
