"We fared much better than many countries in tiding over the economic crisis"
Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Sunday dispelled any impression that her party and the government were having second thoughts on the FDI issue and stressed that the country needed a large dose of investment, of which FDI was a part, to boost growth and employment: close to 100 lakh youths entered the job market every year. Praising the Prime Minister’s role at a time when the world was witnessing economic distress, she said India had fared much better than many countries.
Addressing a massive rally on the Ramlila Grounds here, Ms. Gandhi said corruption was a cancer that affected the poor the most, and declared that whoever was found guilty would not be spared. But that did not stop her from attacking the BJP without mentioning the party: “There is a well ready for those who dig ditches for others,” she said, using a Hindi proverb in an apparent reference to the graft charges that BJP president Nitin Gadkari is facing.
Ms. Gandhi credited the UPA government with enacting the Right to Information law to bring transparency and check corruption: such a law, she said, could be brought only by those who wanted to eradicate corruption. That was also the reason why the government had brought in the Lokpal Bill, but the BJP did not allow it to be passed in the Rajya Sabha.
For Congress Chief Ministers, it was an occasion to demonstrate their efficiency: if Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit as the host ensured everything went off smoothly, it was Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda — under fire in recent weeks on issues stretching from corruption to the rape and killing of Dalit girls in his State — who was the winner. He turned the Ramlila Grounds into a sea of pink — all his supporters sported turbans in that celebratory colour, to which he drew attention by referring to them as Sonia Gandhi’s gulabi sena (the pink army) in his speech.

FDI in retail is the worst economic decision so far.
Consider the following happenings :
Wal Mart enters into a Joint Venture with Bharti and sets up a store in India, at that time FDI was not allowed 51% ownership of the Joint Venture. So Wal Mart set up another subsidiary company and acquired 51% stake in the Joint Venture. Which clearly shows that the rules made by our government do not apply to these foreign companies.
An article about the same was published in a leading national newspaper, but the next day the story vanished and the government took no action.
This shows how weak and pathetic our government is. The politicians governing our country have decided to sell our country.
Wal Mart employs 2.1 million people and has a turnover of $430 Billion.
The retail trade in India employs 100 million people and contributes $400 Billion to our economy. It's clear who employs more people. Think about it !!
Let the politicians bring back all the stashed funds from abroad starting from Bofors to make India self sufficient. FDI in manufacturing is good for India. FDI in retail is very bad for India and any other country including the USA. This is a very well known fact. You Indians beware of getting fooled.
What exactly does Congress want to convey? Not clear; if opposition is neck deep in corruption, please take action,
do not simply say and sit in power ! You have authority
to investigate and expose them; ALSO prove that your party
and misnisters "accused" are not involved; Nehru family is
above board? - all say "not subject to probe, NOT allowed"
Come out into open, face all charges made by any/everybody,
and establish your credentials that none incl Sonia, Singh
are guilty; nor their close relatives or alliance partners.
Instead they throw statements and talk "big"- Ruling party
is head over ears in corruption, we can see their face, only
if they can surface eh ! Pity all bosses have no integrity!
God alone can save us by getting rid of them in a meeting,
or combined picnic - vehicle getting crushed or detroyed!
As far as corruption is concerned both opposition and the ruling party
are alike. Blame game won't help. Rather than accusing someone else of
corruption, Congress can do a self introspection. These days no
political party seems to be bothered about ideals. Someone else being
being wrong is no justification for you to do wrong things
