Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said that Opposition allegations on irregularities in spectrum allocation are not correct.
“In democracy charges are traded but that does not mean what Opposition is saying is right,” Singh told reporters here when asked about the charges levelled against Telecom Minister A Raja.
He declined to get into specifics saying that he would not like to join the issue in public.
Prime Minister’s comments came within days of CBI searching the offices of Department of Telecom and many new private players, who were given spectrum last year.
Within hours of searches, Raja had said that he had done no wrong and followed the recommendations of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and consulted Prime Minister on each issue.
However, the CBI searches, that lasted two days, led to fresh criticism with BJP and some other political parties demanding Raja’s resignation.
