An ethnic Indian, who was left paralysed 25 years ago, is now ready to climb Mount Kinabalu, a prominent mountain on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia, to raise funds for charity.
John Loganathan, 57, said he was diagnosed with dyskinesia, a movement disorder problem, in 1980 that left him paralysed. Doctors had said he would not live long. He said he was all skin and bones and covered with bedsores.
He believed in God and his own personal strength and he went on showing improvements, he said.
Although it has been a few years since he started recovering from his ordeal, Mr. Loganathan said he wanted to celebrate life and help others.
Mr. Loganathan said that when he was afflicted with the disease he could not move any part of his body, except the eyes. “Although I could not move, I could still think and I continuously proclaimed that I could make it,” he said adding that many prayed for him, Star Online said on Friday.
“I began to feel better and decided to stop taking my medication because it was not helping me. I forced myself, instead, to move my body.” He said he applied olive oil on his boils and prayed for healing. He and his wife Daisy have two sons. He was preparing himself for the Mt. Kinabalu feat by jogging twice a week, cycling, playing badminton and hoped to hike some hills before the trip from July 13 to 16.
