Earthquake tremors measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale were felt Tuesday afternoon in northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of floods-plagued Pakistan, local meteorology office said.

The tremors having epicenter near Afghanistan-Tajikistan border were felt in Swat, Dir, Mohmand tribal areas and the provincial capital Peshawar.

A powerful earthquake in the northwest and Kashmir region had killed 80,000 people in October 2005. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is the worst hit region in the continuing month long catastrophic floods worst in the history of Pakistan. Floods and heavy rains have rendered 20 million people homeless, over 1,600 killed, 900,000 homes destroyed and 70 million cattle either killed or missing in Pakistan.
