Today is the United Nations' International Day of  Persons with Disabilities. This year's theme for the day is “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all.” Speaking on the occasion, Javed Abidi, Honorary Director of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) on Sunday said that people needed to stop calling persons with intellectual disabilities as “mental.” “For several years, persons with intellectual disabilities have been called mental which must now stop. Being sensitive towards their needs requires massive cultural change,” Mr. Abidi said.

The full moon today is a supermoon, a full moon that approximately coincides with the closest distance that the moon reaches to Earth in its elliptic orbit, resulting in a larger-than-usual apparent size of the lunar disk as seen from Earth. Though today’s supermoon is 2017’s only such spectacle, it swill be the first of three consecutive supermoons. The other two will occur on January 1 and January 31, 2018. Read more.

The moon appears 14% larger and 40% brighter. But we cannot see much difference with the naked eye. You can use your cameras with telephoto lenses, binoculars, or telescopes to get enhanced views of the lunar surface.

Thirteen people were killed and two were missing after a fishing boat collided with a tanker off South Korea’s west coast and capsized early on Sunday, the country’s coastguard said. The Seonchang-1 fishing boat was carrying 20 passengers on a fishing tour as well as two sailors when it crashed with the 336-tonne fuel tanker at around 6 AM local time at sea near the port city of Incheon.

Tufted Duck, Gadwall, Brahminy Duck, Garganey, Greylag Goose, Mallard, Common Merganser, Northern Pintail, Common Pochard, Ferruginous Pochard, Red-Crested Pochard, Ruddy Shelduck, Northern Shoveler, Common Teal, and Eurasian Wigeon are some of the most sighted birds in the wetlands of Kashmir

Bogibeel bridge is nearing completion and is expected to open rail and road connectivity to Bogibeel on the south bank of the Brahmaputra in Dhemaji district of Assam.
