In the few days he has occupied the office of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath has taken decisions that aim to create “new structure of progress” in Uttar Pradesh. Here are some:
‘Operation Romeo’
Acting on a promise made during the Assembly polls, the State government has asked the UP police to constitute “anti-Romeo squads” in 11 districts of the Lucknow zone to prevent sexual harassment incidents. The squad will be present outside schools and colleges.
Banning pan, tobacco in government buildings
Following his first visit to the secretariat annexe building in Lucknow, Mr. Adityanath directed officials to prohibit the use of pan and tobacco in government offices, hospitals, schools and colleges. He also banned the use of plastic in government offices.
According to Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, the betel stains on walls in the secretariat building put him off. The CM even made the officials take a “swachhata” (cleanliness) pledge.
Relieves non-government advisers, chairmen of their charges
The CM terminated the services of the non-government advisers, chairmen, deputy chairmen and members in corporations, committees and departments of their duties. The Samajwadi Party government had appointed 80 such advisers, who were enjoying the status and benefits of a Minister.
Crackdown on illegal slaughter houses
Also keeping with the BJP’s manifesto on closure of illegal slaughter houses, Mr. Adityanath has asked the police officials to prepare an action plan to shut such animal slaughter houses across the State. He has also called for “zero tolerance” to cow smuggling in the State.
The CM even took to his personal website - www.yogiadityanath.in – to seek public views on banning cow slaughter. Till 5 p.m. 80 per cent of the respondents favour such a ban while 19 per cent have responded in the negative.
Declare Assets
The CM also asked officials to declare their assets within 15 days, a day after issuing a similar order to his Ministers. Read more
