Listing out issues in which the Trinamool Congress has differed with the Congress, the CPI(M) asked how the two parties could continue to co-exist in the UPA coalition and the government.
“We can’t understand on which issue the Trinamool Congress agrees with the government. First, we want to know how are they co-existing,” CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury told reporters here.
The TC differed with the Congress on the issues of handling of Maoist violence, price rise as well as the Women’s Reservation Bill, he said, adding, “they differ on so many crucial issues and yet continue to remain members of the Union Cabinet as well as part of the UPA coalition“.
On the women’s bill, he said, “the fact that they (TC) boycotted (voting on it in Rajya Sabha), shows that they are opposed to the bill“.
Yechury and his party colleague Basudeb Acharia said the four Left parties would hold a mass rally to Parliament on Thursday to protest the government’s failure to check rising prices and raise the issues of unemployment, land acquisition and attacks on their leaders and cadres by Maoists.
They said a call would be given from the rally to all secular opposition parties to join protests on these issues.
Acharia said the rally would begin from Ramlila Grounds and reach Parliament Street, where all Left MPs would join them after marching down from Parliament House. The Left MPs would also move adjournment motions on the price issue in both the Houses.
