An unexploded shell of the World War II era was found in Mumbai harbour on Friday.

The shell, which is 40 cm long and 10 cm in diameter, weighs 10 kg.

“Dredging vessel HAM 318 reported that an unexploded shell is stuck in its drag head,” said a naval officer.

Officials of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust sought the Navy’s assistance.

“We sent a team of explosives experts to the spot,” said the officer.

The team, led by Commander Mukul Rathi, removed the shell successfully and it was sent for analysis and safe disposal.
