Ten women police personnel, including those from ITBP, today embarked on an expedition to Mount Kakstet located at a height of 21,198-feet in Jammu and Kashmir.

The expedition was flagged off from the national capital.

The 24-member contingent is led by a male Deputy Commandant which has two women personnel from Haryana Police and eight from Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

The contingent will also scale another unnamed peak in Leh region of the state.

ITBP is planning to send an all-women mountaineering expedition team to the world’s tallest peak Mount Everest to mark its golden jubillee of raising, which falls next year. ITBP was raised in 1962.

“This expedition is a preparation in this direction,” a senior ITBP officer said.
