A woman officer in the Indian Air Force allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her official quarters here this morning.
Twenty-nine-year-old squadron leader Anandita Das, hailing from Kolkata, was posted at the Jodhpur Air Force Station and living in the officers’ quarters with her husband, who is also an IAF officer.
“She was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the wee hours today. The body has been shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for postmortem,” police said.
She was a ground duty officer.
Defence spokesperson SD Goswami said that a court of inquiry has been ordered in the case.
“Police investigation is on and we will extend full cooperation to the police investigation,” he added.

maybe its not suicide but a planned murder as the defence alwaays covers up internal crimes
@ Mr Balasubramanian: Being highly educated or professionally trained
is not a protective factor against suicidal ideation or acts. Often,
many people do so because of varying levels of depressive illness that
is either not recognized, or despite being recognized, is not outed
for fear of stigma or professional ostracization.
However, your point about what type of environment the armed forces provide for its officers and jawans is a valid one. World over, the culture of the defence forces are undergoing wide ranging re-assessment and review. Hope, our senior officers and commanders are not caught sleeping.
As an aside, whenever the Hindu reports suicide related issues, it may be worthwhile listing help agencies for depression and/or suicide at the bottom (eg., Befrienders India centers); or "If you feel depressed and/or suicidal, please go and see your family doctor". This will go a long way in 'normalizing' help seeking behaviour amongst people in the long run.
What is reason that the people from good educational background are also
committing suicide or becoming a reason for someone else to commit suicide? Is there anything fault in our educational system. I think so.
People need go learn something about religion apart from learning to
earn money. They need to know their true Creator and why did he created
them and what is the true purpose of their life. Once they are aware of
this they will live a better life which is good for them as well for
others.
very sad, even senior officers in the services after getting so many training during their progression in the force committing such acts!Hope it is not due to discrimination or harassment of ladies at the highest level
