A 42-year-old married woman was gang-raped on Wednesday, allegedly by three persons, at an unknown place and dumped. One of the accused, who is known to the victim, has been detained and is being interrogated.
The incident came to light when one of the victim’s friends made a call to the police control room at 9.17 p.m. and the local police reached the spot opposite a government senior secondary school in Kalkaji. There they found the victim along with her friend.
The victim told the police that she was raped by an acquaintance, Dilip Verma, along with his two friends, at an unknown place. She was immediately taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and admitted.
The victim, who hails from Jaipur, later told the police that she had gone to a fair in Mathura on December 23 and after a three-day stay there decided to come to Delhi to buy clothes from Chandni Chowk.
On December 26 around 10 a.m., Dilip offered her a lift in his car saying that he was also going to the capital. He was accompanied by a woman and a toddler in the car which was being driven by a chauffeur, the victim told the police.
On reaching Delhi, Dilip dropped the woman and the child at an unknown place leaving the victim all alone with him and the driver. He then allegedly took her to an unknown place, where two of his friends were already present. The three gang-raped her, threatening her with dire consequences if she informed anyone.
They dumped her at an unknown place and drove away. She managed to reach Kalkaji and call her friend who in turn informed the police.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under Section 376 (G) of the Indian Penal Code and detained Dilip, a resident of Agra.
Sources in the Delhi Police said that a few months ago the victim had filed a complaint of attempt to rape against Dilip, at the Sikandra police station in Agra, but the police did not register any case.

I feel so demoralized and depressed when I see to what deplorable levels my countrymen's morals have dropped. Have we become so sex-starved that we have to resort to rape on a daily basis?
I hope the woman gets justice, but this statement disturbs me:
"few months ago the victim had filed a complaint of attempt to rape against Dilip".
So she got into a car willingly with the very person who tried to rape her a few months ago? Where is the common sense?
Can you please post a proper story? I can make no sense out of it ,
especially the line "A senior police official said it is claimed that
the woman had earlier tried to get a rape case registered in Agra but
after investigations, police did not file any case as they found the
allegations to be false."
And I am wondering how all the people commenting are able to follow what
is written.
What a shame! I am living in a country where nobody can assure that a woman stepping out of her house alone or even accompanied by a male companion will return home safely.
Of late, I am reading at least 3-4 cases of rape and molestation daily, all over India. Has this been the case even before, or Are these kind of atrocities getting reported only after last week's brutal incident has come to light?
There has been so much negative energy being injected into our society since the Delhi rape episode - newspapers and media are in an unprecedented hunt for rape and abuse cases all over country and they are discussed, debated and explained to its minute details without suggesting any real solution. Nowadays there are at least 3-5 rape news on a daily mode. Where was this before ? Where will be this after a month or so ? (yes we will wait and see) - I hope at least Hindu will keep its high standards in journalism with an eye on how this will impact a society as a whole.
the very marketting srategies of this patriarchic system make the women just as sexual objects through various media. I think this is a major reason for high rates of rapes.
After these rape cases, a question arises in my mind that where our country stands...No protection for women,as they touches the sky these animals are pulling them down
Inspite of all the sensitiveness of rape of medical student still this heinour crime occurs which means there is NO fear for law as the culprits know even if they are arrested they can come out on bail and the case will go for years. Castration followed by death penalty OR rigorous life imprisonment is the only answer. I was told by a friend who visited Singapore where women can walk on the road at midnight without fear, because of the law. It is also true that most policemen also do not behave with good manner as they lack the ethics. Recently there was news that a police inspector raped a woman in a hotel who was already raped by some men and she called him for some inquiry
I have always felt very proud telling everyone that I am an ‘Indian’.
I would like to be known as Indian until my last breath and even in
every life after my death. When I was child, I dreamt my India will
become one day a great place in the earth but the greed of our people
has made it the greatest trench. The situations in our country are
terrible and it is appalling. Rampant corruption, the income disparity
between the rich and the poor, adulterated food, poor infrastructure,
low public awareness of the environmental problems, lack of good
hospital facility, social security etc. The lists of problems we are
facing in India are endless. The successive governments of all
political parties have looted and raped our mother India. Now the time
has reached that we need to have a second Independence struggle
against all these problems. We will not overcome this problem in a day
or two but we should set a goal to eradicate some of the problems
faced by our country.
It's like an insult to injury. All hope is lost, until a new and a
hopefully responsible government comes to power.
