A 48-year-old woman from Himachal Pradesh died of swine flu in Mohali near here, a health official said on Monday.

Binoo Gupta was admitted to a hospital in Mohali on October 16. On Sunday, her condition turned serious and her samples were sent for tests, but she died before her test reports confirmed that she had swine flu, Punjab’s Nodal Officer for swine flu cases, Deepak Bhatia said.

He said this was the first swine flu casualty in Punjab, where 34 persons have so far tested positive for the virus.

“We have informed health officials at Solan so that the woman’s family and those who came in contact with her were also examined,” he said.
