The Chief Justice of India’s courtroom witnessed anxious moments on Monday when a woman dressed in lawyer’s clothes said she had consumed poison after police ignored her gang rape complaint.

She went on to narrate to Chief Justice R.M. Lodha and Justices Kurian Joseph and Rohinton Nariman that she was gang-raped in November 2013 by her in-laws in Chhattisgarh.

She alleged that a complaint was filed with the police, but no action was taken on it.

Then she went on to inform the court that she had consumed phenyl tablets.

The woman was rushed to a hospital on the orders of the Chief Justice.

Her case has been listed for hearing on Tuesday.
