Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav, who faces corruption charges and calls to resign, on Wednesday told a TV channel that he would step down from his post only if his party — the Rashtriya Janata Dal — asked him to do so.
“It’s my party which elected me as the legislature party leader… I will do what they will ask me to do,” Mr. Yadav said. His assertion comes a day after he had a one-to-one meeting with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at the latter’s office in the secretariat for 40 minutes. What transpired between the two is not known to the media.
Sources in the RJD said Mr. Yadav was to leave for New Delhi on Wednesday night to meet eminent lawyers and also for matters concerned with the road and construction department under his ministry.
“He will stay in Delhi for two days and may meet top lawyers to discuss the CBI case against him,” a senior RJD leader said.
