July 22, 2016 03:20 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:23 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

After sacking its U.P. unit vice-president Dayashankar Singh over the objectionable remarks that he had made against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, the BJP assumed an aggressive tone in combating charges of prejudice against Dalits and women laid against it.

The party fielded Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu who not only pointed out that the party had the largest number of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Caste (OBC) MPs in Parliament but that the speed with which it took action against Mr Singh showed its sincerity.

“We have sacked the party leader, and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has already expressed regret in the Rajya Sabha. Now I am waiting for the Opposition to express regret for the objectionable things they have said about not just Ministers in this government like Smriti Irani but Prime Minister Narendra Modi,”
