With the iconic ‘Hall of Nations’ at the Pragati Maidan razed to the ground, its architect Raj Rewal on Thursday told the Delhi High Court that he would be appealing for its restitutiton.
Mr Rewal's counsel Roma Bhagat told a bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal that he would be seeking its restitution.
Ms Bhagat said so when Mr Rewal's appeal cane up for hearing.
The appeal had challenged the single judge order which upheld the decision of the Heritage Conservation Committee that since the Hall of Nations was not 60 years old, it could not be considered heritage and protected from demolition as part of Pragati Maidan redevelopment into a world class exhibition centre.
Since the hall of nations was demolished early this week after the single judge order and during the pendency of the appeal, the Division Bench on Wednesday asked if Mr Rewal would be seeking damages.
To this, Ms Bhagat said she be granted time to file an amended appeal as Mr Rewal will seek restitution of hall of nations.
Ms Bhagat said the hall of nations can be rebuilt in one year if the appeal is allowed.
The bench then posted the matter for September.
