The government on Wednesday said discussions are under way to provide free Wi-Fi in public places such as railway stations, museums and airports under the Digital India programme.
“Discussions are being held with the industry, and models for provisioning of Wi-Fi public services are being worked out,” Minister for Communications and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
He added that data regarding connectivity and bandwidth availability in tourist places have been collected.
On implementation of the Digital India programme, the Minister said IT Ministers/Secretaries of all States and Union Territories have been apprised of the programme and its various components.
