“Trump’s announcement is the first formal step to legalise Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine territories”

The CPI(M) on Thursday questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, as opposed to the worldwide outrage, on U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The CPI(M) politburo said in a statement that the U.S. had taken a formal step to legalise the illegal occupation of Palestine territories by Israel. “This action goes against the United Nations’ and the international community’s stand that East Jerusalem is an occupied territory....”

Unlike the worldwide reaction, the official spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs had refused to criticise the U.S. decision, the politburo said. “This shows the extent of servility of the Modi regime to the United States.”
