Kapil Sibal, who has taken charge from A. Raja as Communications Minister, told reporters here on Monday, “We will individually evaluate all the cases [highlighted in the CAG report]...we will ensure full transparency, justice and equity while dealing with these cases.”
Mr. Raja resigned following allegations of causing over Rs.1.76-crore loss to the exchequer in the 2G spectrum allocation in 2008.
Asked about the massive revenue loss to the exchequer by allotting 2G spectrum at 2001 prices, he said: “The CAG has stated this…it is its [CAG] opinion. Pricing is a complex issue and we will apply our mind individually to each case. It [pricing] has undergone change from time to time…the pricing issue is something which the [Telecom] Ministry will decide.”
Asserting that the government was committed to the growth of the telecom sector, he said: “the time has come for a policy framework that is certain, that is good for the long term growth of the industry. This government will not hesitate to ensure that the rule of law is honoured and those guilty are dealt with the accordance thereof.”
