We can never join UPA government: SP

June 09, 2010 03:10 am | Updated 03:10 am IST - KOLKATA:

There is no question of the Samajwadi Party joining the UPA government, general secretary Kiranmay Nanda said here on Tuesday.

Dismissing reports in a section of the media that the SP might consider joining the government if the Trinamool Congress were to withdraw support to it, Mr. Nanda said: “The SP can never join the UPA government. We are completely against the policies of the Congress. Our party has nothing to do with the Trinamool either.”

Though the SP was against the policies of the Congress, it did not vote against the UPA government on the Opposition-sponsored cut motions in the budget session, as otherwise the BJP would have been enabled to come to power, he said.

“Our fight is against the Congress, the BJP and in Uttar Pradesh, against the Bahujan Samaj Party.”

Mr. Nanda said his party was preparing for the Assembly elections in 2012.

He spoke out against Operation Green Hunt on the trail of Maoists, saying his party was always opposed to it.
