Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, who has made it clear he will neither float a political party nor contest polls, on Saturday said people should elect their representatives on the basis of their record of social service and strength of character.
The social activist said though he has no plans to contest elections, he was ready to campaign for honest and clean candidates.
People should elect their MPs and MLAs on the basis of social service rendered by them and their personal character.
Candidates aspiring to become legislators must show commitment to implement election manifesto and remain answerable to common people for their every act, he said while talking to PTI at his native village here in western Maharashtra.
Since there are not enough honest Members of Parliament in the current House, passing a strong Lokpal Bill has become difficult, the veteran social activist said.
Earlier, anti-corruption activists Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Dinesh Waghela came down here from Delhi and met Mr. Hazare and discussed various issues with him.

As now that Anna is not in favor of forming a political party, the best thing in these circumstances he can do (as many others also are of this view) is that, he, through his team or volunteers, should help identify one suitable candidate at each of the parliament constituency, field him as an independent candidate, and then campaign for his victory. If he could do this or something similar to this, he would be rendering a noble service to the nation and its citizen; similar to that which he has been doing since last year by way of creating awareness against state corruption through his IAC Movement.
Voters in India do not think alike. Some have problems in finding food
to survive. Some desires for 3 bedroom houses. Some wants imported
cars without duty. There are different layers in India stacked one
upon another without any contact with each other. How will they think
uniformly to make any changes in the polity? The society has been
effectively divided by politicians on secured jobs, organised sector
jobs, unsecured jobs and depending-on-dole jobs; also on caste,
religion, region basis. Only people like Mahatma Gandhi and L B
Shastri, based on their virtues, and J L Nehru based on charisma had
the power to unite people, make them think alike and act as one. Shri.
Anna Hazare himself became one such leader during last April, but
somehow, he also lost that power now. A mass leader should know when
to strike. The iron is not hot now.
Unfortunately the choice set of electoral candidature is such that the
common man is not left with an option of choosing a candidate who has a
social bent of mind and has the flair for serving the country. How can
we vote for 'clean and social' candidates when they are non-existent in
this democratic set-up?
It seems Anna Ji has realised after his last show in Jantar mantar
along with Ramdev Ji that as a social activist he can be more known
and will be respected than getting into politics.Present situation in
Parliament is not an ideal one with no single party able to work and
shape up the nation as per their ideologies. The coalition politics be
it with BJP or Congress is for compromising and work out a middle path
and costs them a lot.under these circumstances Janlokpal will never be
in a position to come up and become a popular instrument to provide a
direction to curb corruption and take hold of balck money.May be let's
se how 14th lok labha after 2014 will be better in composition than
the present one.what everAnna can contribute to make politics a
healthy and ideal one and how we will proceed in this direction time
only can make clear
