On a meeting proposed to be held on November 2 (“Left parties frame plans to counter Hindutva”, October 27), at the Communist Party of India’s Ajoy Bhavan

headquarters in New Delhi bringing together different communist groups, Major-General (retd) S.G. Vombatkere has written to say that his name was brought into the published report based on inputs given without consulting him.

He clarified that he is not a member of, and is not aligned with, any political party.

Being keen to uphold the Constitution of India, in all related correspondence regarding convening the meeting, he had stated he was not prepared to associate with any party, group, faction or person that/who denies or opposes the Constitution of India and its democratic, parliamentary character, he added. He is secular by conviction and practice, and opposed to political or religious fundamentalist forces on the Left and the Right.

The November 2 meeting was conceived in consultation with groups that agree to abide by the Constitution and parliamentary practice, for an informal interaction on issues concerning law-abiding citizens and public good, he said.
