The new system of ‘Visa on Arrival’ for tourists from Japan, Finland, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, will come into effect from the midnight of Friday.

Airport sources said that the new system had been introduced in the four metros airports – Chennai, New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. As per the Government order visas issued on arrival basis were valid for up to 30 days only with single entry. They were not extendable.

Each traveller had to pay US $ 60 or its equivalent in Indian currency for the visa. The new system was introduced with a view to encourage tourism.

Any passenger from the identified countries could be eligible to obtain the visa on arrival only twice in a calendar year. Similarly, there should be a minimum gap of two months for obtaining the visa for the second time, the sources added.
