Violence breaks out in Anantapur

The Centre's announcement in initiating the process for forming the State of Telangana sparked off protests among the student community and among the MLAs of the district on Thursday.

Thousands of students of Srikrishna Devaraya University staged a ‘rasta roko’ on the National Highway and damaged windshields of eight buses of the APSRTC and shouted for an integrated Andhra Pradesh state. The disturbances were confined to only the university campus.

Police forces rushed to the university campus and brought the situation under control.

Meanwhile, Congress senior leader and MLA J.C.Diwakar anounced his resignation as MLA as did other MLAs like Ramireddy Venkatram Reddy (Dharmavaram), K.M.Madhusudan Gutha (Guntakal)and Payyavula Keshav (Uravakonda) denouncing the Centre's anouncement.

Meanwhile DIG of police B.L.Sujatha Rao and Superintendent of Police M.K.Singh visited the Srikrishnadevaraya university campus along with the large contigent of policemen. RTC Regional manager Sashidhar stated that bus services were being operated normally in the district.
