Vikram Agarwal, the city-based hotelier who was arrested by the Crime Branch CID on charges of involvement in cricket betting and allowing a bookie to operate on his premises, complained of chest pain while being escorted to Puzhal Central Prison on Thursday.

According to police sources, Mr. Agarwal was produced in court by the CB-CID after a two-day custodial interrogation. Since his bail petition was posted to Friday for hearing, CB-CID officials took him to a Government Hospital in Saidapet for a health checkup, which is a routine procedure before remanding a suspect in judicial custody.

Mr. Agarwal complained of high blood pressure, palpitations and chest pain and was referred to the Government Royapettah Hospital around 7 p.m. After a few hours of treatment, he was taken to Puzhal Central Prison around midnight and lodged there.
