Vijayamma meets Rajnath seeking support

October 10, 2013 01:07 am | Updated May 28, 2016 03:47 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Continuing her campaign with national parties to support the cause of a united Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress Chief Y.S Vijayamma on Wednesday met BJP president Rajnath Singh, among others, on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day she had met CPI leader D. Raja while on Tuesday, she had called on the CPI (M) leader Prakash Karat regarding the same issue.

In the course of her 20-minute meeting with the BJP President, Ms. Vijayamma handed over a memorandum, listing reasons why her party was opposed to the bifurcation move, and asked Mr. Singh to reconsider the BJP’s stand on the issue.

However, she evaded questions on the prospect of an electoral alliance with the BJP saying the time was not right to talk about alliances as Andhra Pradesh was burning.

Ms. Vijayamma requested the BJP chief to stick to an earlier resolution by L.K Advani which said that the State should be bifurcated either through a State Assembly resolution or by the second States Reorganisation Commission.
