Vichare has 19 cases against him

July 24, 2014 12:14 am | Updated April 22, 2016 02:31 am IST - Mumbai:

Shiv Sena MP Rajan Vichare, who was caught on camera allegedly force-feeding a Muslim employee of Maharashtra Sadan and thus breaking his Ramzan fast, posted an uncharacteristic message on Facebook on July 21: “Walk away from arguments that lead you to anger and nowhere.”

Clearly, the 53-year-old dyed-in-the-wool Shiv Sainik did not follow his own advice. The former Mayor of Thane, his associates say, is known as “rude” and to be spoiling for agitation. He faces 19 police cases, his election affidavit says.

The offences registered against him span from rioting (Section 147 of the Indian Penal Code) to intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace (Section 504). During the election campaign, Mr. Vichare said the cases registered against him were for agitating to resolve public grievances.
