A Special Court, conducting trial in the Gulberg Society massacre case in which a former Congress parliamentarian was among those killed, is likely to pronounce its verdict on June 2.
Special judge P.B. Desai, who has been conducting a protracted trial in the case, has asked lawyers of all parties to be present in the court on June 2 when it may deliver its judgment on the massacre of 69 persons in a Muslim-dominated housing society in northern Ahmedabad during the 2002 Gujarat riots.
The court completed the trial in September 2015 but was restrained by the Supreme Court from pronouncing its verdict. Subsequently, the apex court directed the trial court to pass the verdict by May 31.
The case was among the nine most crucial ones reinvestigated by the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation team (SIT) headed by former CBI Director R.K. Raghavan.
