Senior Congress leader Vidya Charan Shukla (84), who was seriously injured in a Maoist attack on a convoy of Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh two weeks ago, died at Medanta — The Medicity hospital here on Tuesday.

“He was operated upon for intestinal and liver injuries and remained critical… Unfortunately, despite all efforts by a team of specialists he succumbed to his injuries and illness and passed away today [on Tuesday] afternoon,” said a statement issued by the hospital authorities.

“Mr. Shukla developed multiple-organ failure. Severe bullet injuries and old age were the major risk factors in his case,” said Yatin Mehta, Chairman, Institute of Critical Care and Anaesthesiology.

What a mindless act of violence by the maoists ! May Shukla's soul rest
in peace! Mr. Shukla is one of the senior most politicians of
India. However, he put up a good fight till the end, which is the
hallmark of this great man.
