Varun slams Rahul’s remarks on ordinance

Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Varun Gandhi on Sunday described Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s remarks over the ordinance to negate the Supreme Court order against convicted law makers as an “insult to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.”

That the Congress leader’s controversial remarks were made at a time when the Prime Minister was abroad also made it an “insult to the nation,” he said. Such a statement was “unacceptable.”

The BJP leader was in the city for the State Executive Committee meeting of the party.

After the Congress vice-president’s remarks the UPA had lost “the moral right to remain in power,” a party source quoted Mr. Varun Gandhi as having said at the closed-door party meeting.

BJP’s State unit president Rahul Sinha denounced Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s comments as “totally unethical.” “They being made by one of the top leaders of the ruling party makes it all the more objectionable.”

Mr. Sinha demanded the resignations of the Prime Minister and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi as both Dr. Singh and his government had lost the moral right to stay in power after Mr. Rahul Gandhi condemned the proposed ordinance as “complete nonsense.”
