“Varsha Bhosle had attempted suicide thrice”

October 13, 2012 10:46 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 01:17 pm IST - MUMBAI:

Columnist and one-time singer Varsha Bhosle, who was recently found dead, had attempted suicide for the first time when she was in college, her brother and veteran singer Asha Bhosle’s younger son, Anand Bhosle, told Mumbai police here on Saturday.

Mr. Anand also reportedly said the pistol in question had gone missing 20 years ago, instead of 30 years ago, as claimed earlier by the veteran singer.

Mr. Anand’s statement was recorded at the Deputy Commissioner of Police office here on Saturday afternoon, a day after he returned from Singapore after fulfilling his professional commitments. He told the police that he wasn’t aware how Varsha got hold of the missing pistol.

She had tried to commit suicide thrice earlier, he told the police. The first time was in 1974 when she was in college, after which she again attempted suicide in 1998 and 2008.

“He did not know how she got hold of the missing pistol. He said he only knew that it had gone missing a few years ago,” senior Inspector Pradip Lonandkar told The Hindu .
