United States Trade Representative Ambassador Michael Froman, who is expected to land in Bali shortly for the Ninth WTO Ministerial Conference, has sought a meeting with Commerce Minister Anand Sharma.
India’s position, sources said, would be that the U.S. would make real gains from the Bali proposal on agriculture subsidies. “India is a net exporter of food, so any gain to the U.S. if the Bali Package is adopted can only be notional,” they said.
The meeting is likely to take place before the Ministerial Meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
