U.S. diplomats in India just doing their job: State Department

Amid controversy generated by the release of secret cables by WikiLeaks, including those from U.S. embassy in New Delhi, the Obama Administration has said that American diplomats in India are doing their job just like their counterparts here.

“Our diplomats do what diplomats do, and what we do in a country like India is no different than what Indian diplomats do in our country,” State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said at his daily news conference.

His comments came in response to a question about the latest revelation coming out in the news media after WikiLeaks released a fresh trench of cables issued by the U.S. embassy in India, where the U.S. expressed concern over poor security in labs which could make bioweapons accessible to the wrong hands.

“We are building a strategic partnership with India.

We have significant engagement on a variety of issues with both India the government and the people,” Mr. Crowley said.
