Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday apprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi of measures being taken to address issues raised by civil services aspirants holding protests against the “discriminatory” Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT).
The Home Minister earlier held a high-level meeting with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh and other senior government officials to explore all possible solutions.
Among the participants were also Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) Secretary S.K. Sarkar and Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) officials.
While angry students have been organising protests for the past several weeks, the situation turned violent two days ago after the UPSC issued admit cards for the preliminary examination scheduled to be conducted on August 24.
The admit cards were issued days after Dr. Jitendra Singh assured students that their concerns would be resolved at the earliest, and that he had urged the UPSC to consider postponing the examination pending a report from the three-member committee instituted to review the examination pattern.
“A recommendation from the committee set up to examine the alleged flaws in the Civil Services Aptitude Tests (CSAT) pattern is still awaited.”
