The United Progressive Alliance is a pre-poll alliance and has more than the adequate numbers to get the post of the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, said senior Congress leader Anand Sharma on Sunday amid statements from the government that people had not given any party the numbers to claim the position.
“If the constitutional needs have to be fully met, then a response should be there and the UPA is a pre-poll alliance and it has more than the adequate numbers. When the government formation takes place, whether the NDA or the UPA, it’s the pre-poll alliance which the President recognises. I am only saying that they have to find a solution,” Mr. Sharma told Karan Thapar on ‘Nothing But The Truth’ programme on Headlines Today .
Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu had taunted Congress saying people had not chosen any party for the position.
