Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government on Monday promised the Supreme Court to recruit over 30,000 police personnel annually to fill over a lakh vacancies in the State police force.
A Bench led by Chief Justice of India J.S. Khehar directed the U.P. government to start filling the 1,01,619 posts in the police and asked the State to start recruiting 30,000 constables every year from August 17 till August 2020, apart from filling 11,376 posts of Sub-Inspector.
It directed that 3,200 posts of Sub-Inspector be filled annually from January 2018 till January 2021, apart from filling the promotional posts every year.
The court directed Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to fill about 45,000 such vacancies in a time-bound manner, while expressing dissatisfaction with the responses of West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand in the matter.
The court also accepted the road map of filling police vacancies in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, which are 24,889 and 19,803, respectively. The Bench, however, sought fresh road maps to fill the vacancies in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
It directed the Home Secretaries of Gujarat, Telangana and Rajasthan to be present on May 1 and suggest the road map to fill over 50,000 police vacancies.
