ULFA militant arrested with explosives near Guwahati refinery

Police on Saturday arrested a suspected ULFA militant and recovered explosives from him.

According to police, an ULFA militant was spotted at around 9.30 p.m. near the IOC refinery Noonmati here by a joint team of police and CRPF during routine patrolling.

A person was seen walking along the railway line near the sector 3 area of refinery complex, they said adding that he was caught when he tried to run.

Police recovered one kilogram RDX, half kg cycle iron balls and half kg screws from the arrested militant identified as Dharmendra Kalita, who belongs to ULFA’s 109 battalion, police said.

The explosives were brought for blasts at the refinery and nearby places, police sources said adding interrogation is on.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened up in the areas close to the refinery.
