U.K. Foreign Secretary to visit India

July 26, 2016 01:13 am | Updated 01:13 am IST - NEW DELHI:

United Kingdom is confident of rediscovering ties with India and other “partner countries” under the leadership of Prime Minister Theresa May who took over on July 13 following the Brexit referendum.

The special ties will be “further strengthened” with the visit of Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson who is likely to come to India later this year, announced Alok Sharma, U.K.’s Minister of Asia-Pacific Affairs, the first British Minister to visit India since Brexit.

“Despite Brexit, we will have the strongest possible ties with the European Union (EU) while exploring ways to further strengthen our ties with partner countries like India.

“The U.K. is open and welcoming for partners like India,” Mr. Sharma said, addressing a gathering at the residence of the British High Commissioner here.

Indian companies will not leave U.K. for other European countries, he said.
