Two soldiers were killed near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kargil sector when they stepped on a mine during patrolling, an Udhampur-based Army spokesman said in Udhampur.

Subedar Basappa Patil, from Belagavi, and Sepoy Hasansab Khudavand from Dharwad, both in Karnataka, are the dead.

“Two soldiers were killed on Saturday while patrolling along the LoC in Kargil Sector when they were caught in a mine blast,” the spokesman said.

“The soldiers sustained grievous injuries, which proved fatal.”

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Leh on Sunday by the Army’s 14 Corps.

“The mortal remains of the two martyrs are being flown to their native places where they will be accorded military funerals with full ceremonial honours,” the spokesman said.
