Border Security Force (BSF) personnel shot dead four persons, including two Pakistani intruders, after an encounter near the International Border (IB) in the Ferozepur sector, Punjab, early on Sunday.
According to BSF officers, the intruders were allegedly trying to smuggle narcotics to the Indian side.
“We detected the movement of some people with the help of thermal imagers that we have installed near the border. We followed the images and found four people near the fence at the Mehndipur border outpost. They were exchanging consignment of heroin,” said R.K. Thapa, DIG, BSF, Ferozepur.
He said more people were involved in the smuggling. “There were at least 5-6 people on the Pakistani side, waiting a little away from the border. As soon as we challenged them, there was firing from Pakistan’s side and we killed the two present near the fence. Two Indians were also killed, there was a third person who escaped,” said Mr. Thapa.
After the intruders were killed, the BSF recovered 10 kg heroin, three pistols, 50-60 rounds of ammunition, and spent cartridges on them. None of the deceased has been identified.
