Moderate quakes hit Assam

Two earthquakes of moderate intensity rocked Assam in the early hours on Friday, according to Regional Seismological Centre, Shillong.

Two earthquakes of moderate intensity rocked Assam in the early hours on Friday, according to Regional Seismological Centre, Shillong.

The first, measuring 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale, occurred at 3.35 am with its epicentre at 26.8 degrees north and 92.7 degrees east longitude at Rangapara in Sonitpur district bordering Arunachal Pradesh.

The second quake, measuring 3.8 magnitude, occurred at 5.50 am with its epicentre at 26 degrees north latitude and 92.4 degrees East longitude at Morigan in Central Assam.

There was, however, no report of any casualty or damage so far.
