Two suspected members of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) were killed in an encounter with the police in the restive Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
“An encounter took place today [on Saturday] morning near Gangrajpahad village under Konta police station limits in Sukma district of Bastar. Two male Maoists were killed during the encounter and two country-made weapons were recovered from them,” informed Bastar range Inspector General (IG) of Police, S.R.P. Kalluri.
The police team was led by Konta Sub Divisional Police Officer Harish Yadav and jointly planned by the Sukma district police and forces from East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
‘Active support from A.P. police’
“Our party had left Friday night and the exchange of fire took place today morning. The two dead Maoists have been identified as Maoists’ Maita region RPC president Sunnam Tammaiah and technical team member Madkam Muyya. This operation received active support from the police force of our neighboring State of Andhra Pradesh,” said Mr. Kalluri.
