Victim's condition “stable but very critical”
Two suspects in the gang-rape case that has shocked the nation’s conscience confessed to their involvement in the gruesome crime in a court here on Wednesday, even as the capital witnessed a slew of angry protests.
Sharing the widespread outrage, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said: “It is a heinous crime. It is very upsetting,” while receiving a delegation of women Members of Parliament. Dr. Singh has reportedly directed the Home Minister to ensure that the culprits were brought to justice and such cases did not recur. Angry members raised the issue for the second successive day in Parliament.
Produced in court to seek their consent for a test identification parade (TIP), Pawan Gupta (19) and Vinay Sharma (20) refused the TIP but broke down when asked by Metropolitan Magistrate Sandeep Garg their reasons for refusal. “I have done a horrible thing…I have done a bad thing,” said Pawan Gupta, a fruit seller. Vinay Sharma, an assistant gym instructor, pleaded: “I confess to my guilt. I beat up the boy. I did not do anything to the girl. Hang me.”
The third suspect, Mukesh (26), who was allegedly driving the vehicle when the 23-year-old woman was gang-raped, consented to presenting himself for the TIP, which will now be conducted at Tihar Central Jail on Thursday at 3 p.m. While Mukesh was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days, Pawan and Vinay were remanded in four-day police custody.
Another court recorded the statement of the victim’s male friend, who is also the complainant in the case, under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code making it admissible during trial as evidence.
Meanwhile, the condition of the 23-year-old girl continues to be “stable but very critical” at Safdarjung Hospital. A team of doctors conducted a two-hour operation on the victim in the morning to remove the gangrenous part of her intestine. The abdomen was opened, cleaned and closed. Her vital parameters (blood pressure, heart rate, urine output and platelet counts) are stable.
Taking serious note of the incident, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday virtually took charge of monitoring of the investigation by asking the Delhi Police not to file the charge sheet without getting it vetted by it. It also directed the police to maintain high standards of investigation.

Can anybody imagine the same attack on their beloved persons? Blood is boiling and the punishment should be cruel and brutal to those mindless human animals. No no..that is not enough..those bastards to be killed to death publicly and this should be a lesson to all such animals..

I don't understand why it takes ages to solve these type cases in the court of law. We all should react for this brutal act against the goverment till she gets the justice..

Are you now going to allege that these kids were exposing their bodies in the
name of fashion?
I would like to request you to get rid of your archaic attitudes which shift the
blame to the victim and away from the perpetrator.
The liberal laws, delay in justice, gravity of punishment, all these are certain facts which renders happening of such a shameful act possible. India today needs a change,the society needs to accept girl/women as a respectable member of the society. the law needs to be more stringent, the speedy justice needs to be availed to the victims. As argued by many people that death can be awarded only in the "rarest of rare cases", I would ask that person a single question-Is this not "rarest of the rare", every rape case is rarest of the rare case and the only punishment for such an heinous crime is death penalty because rape is nowhere allowed and it is the most heinous crime. If the accused have confessed their guilt then they should be hanged to death.
Don't let the politicians bullshit their way through this one. Complete the trial in one day and no one to go back home until they are hanged in public view.

What's the point in punishing these people with Govt bearing the cost
for their imprisonment and letting them off after 5-7 yrs..Sometimes
even before if their conduct is good and release them on some leader's
birthdays or National holidays (Jan 26, Aug 15, Oct 2)...They should be
hanged...
women are considered in India as goddess, and they are worshipped. How shame
it is that our goddess are gang-raped.For rapist in India is not
rigorous punishment, so the rapists are encouraged by others when they
become free without getting severe reward. If our government wants to
stop such incident it must bring rigorous punishment like Saudia
Arabia. when some people get punishment like that other will never
dare to commit such a crime. and such punishment has life for our
women.
Where our culture gone? I couldn’t believe that even today the man is seeing the female as a sex object. It’s very horrible. In this stage how we can proudly say that we got two medals in Olympic by women. See here we are lagging, one side they (female) are achieving a lot. Another side they are tortured and troubled by the society. When they will get freedom from male chauvinistic society?
The government, they used to talk a lot and assure to take severe action against criminals who involved in this case. After one week they will be busy in dealing with MNC’s. What happens to the Assam’s case?. Surely these guys will be punished but when? After 15 years?.
These are unanswerable questions. Only we can look and raise our voice against such shame. But we can do nothing until we got answer to these questions.

The perpetrator was a cab driver.
He was "accidentally" killed in an "encounter" with the cops when he tried to escape.
Swift justice
What has happened to this ill-fated victim should not happen anymore. Now the time has come to stricten punishments for such cruel crimes. Heavy punishment should be given to the gang involved even though they all admitted their crime. Let us all pray for the victim's speedy recovery.
How did Delhi Transport Department and Police permit a public transport
bus with tinted glass to ply on road. These officials should also be taken to task. Many State governments have failed to provide good and
safe public transport services. Most of the MRTS stations in Chennai are
unsafe and hope some thing is done about it.
In Muslim countries if such crime and brutal thing happened,there the punishment is very severe and so nobody dare to do it.Even after the hearing,what punishment they will be given,our court only give 5 or 7 years of imprisonment!Is that enough for the sufferings,pain,mental agony and for all the thing she has gone through.This incident has brought fear in all the parent's mind to bring up a girl child in our country.Our legislation should be changed and the punishment given must be worse so that it reduces in the future.There is nothing wrong in cancelling the criminal's citizenship.
Heart bleeds. Sleep has become very difficult over the past two days. A report says the whole of her intestine had to be removed and if she survives she has to be on intravenous fluids forever. And this courageous girl wants to live. No words can express feelings. In the attack most of her small intestine had come out as per a report. Such cruel attack by six men against a girl. This looks madness. Wish she could survive and live healthily. Are there no other options available for replacement of the intestine? Can medical professionals anywhere in the world give a helping hand? Praying something miraculous should happen. Will this society ever change for the better?
Stricter punishment for rape is required. Death penalty cannot be the implemented due to liberal nature of our democracy, so punishment for rape should atleast be life term.
However life term is not the ultimate solution as the sexual desire of rapists do not deter them at that moment.
So a possible solution is we reform our society...Identifying the sort of people who commit this crime and educating them about punishment & morally should help...Also there is so much adult material available these days via internet, TV, newspapers etc....we need to think that these things are destroying lives of our children....
What we Indians need is to be taught to ask for a date - openly, outgoingly, and
politely. And girls need to be taught to accept or decline with grace and not be
offended or feel threatened.
This whole repress human nature thing is not working out is it? At some point we
became a society of sex-is-wrong believers. Perhaps its time to change that attitude,
and accept and enjoy our existence. That way there wont be so many desperados
where if we are suppressing human nature, that's all we'll have. This modern
approach has worked in the west, and worked in India before. Why not again once
again?
The problem lies in the system itself. 7 years and that's it ? They
should be hanged in public and made an example of, so that the other
vultures know where not to flock !
Rape is an objectionable crime that is forbidden in all religions and
in the minds of all wise people and those who have sound human nature.
All earthly systems and laws regard this action as abhorrent and
impose the strictest penalties on it. The pain of rape cannot be
erased with the passage of time.
There is strong need to close the door to the criminal who wants to
commit this crime. Many studies have shown that most rapists are
already criminals who commit their crimes under the influence of
alcohol and drugs, and they take advantage of the fact that their
victims are walking alone in isolated places, or staying in the house
alone. Rapists who go to prison are very likely to get out doing the
same again.
The new law should be brought on the statute book without delay and
provide for capital punishment. The government must also ensure that
police register every rape case reported to it, complete the
investigation within a stipulated time frame and provide protection to
the victim. There should be special courts for speedy trial of rape
cases. A rapist deserves no sympathy and must be given deterrent
punishment.
Besides, improving the law, survellaince and security measures, it could
be far more effective to work on the mind set of youth, inculcating
respect for dignity of any fellow human. Rogue behaviour seems to have
an epidemic nature, sometimes mistaken for a "cool and carefree"
attitude. Considering it has become more prominent in some metro pockets
and as public assaults, it might also be more effective to tackle it as
a social problem, empowering people around to respond quickly.

Why the buses with tinted glasses are allowed, whereas it is not allowed to cars
Punishement should be capital or life term depending upon brutality. All rape cases needs to be taken by fast track court on daily basis so that justice to both parties and lesson to the society is quick and clear.

The criminals who committed this crimes must be removed from the community for good.
They should be tried for attempt to murder along with rape, since girl's
condition is so critical. That's when legally they can either get
punishment of life term or hanged till death. Almost every rape is
'attempt to murder' on girl's life.. it destroys her life, often kills
her, one way or other.
Can anyone tell me how the accused can refuse to go to TIP? Why do we ask for their will?
