Virender Sehwag usually ducks the bouncers or goes hard at them. However, on Monday, he was caught on a sticky wicket over his stand on the violence that broke out Ramjas college in New Delhi. It all started on Sunday when the cricketer posted a Tweet, saying, “I didn’t score a triple century, my bat did,” in an apparent dig at a Delhi University student’s remarks on the violence.
Gurmehar Kaur, a daughter of a Kargil martyr, posted this message on one of the social platforms: "Pakistan did not kill my dad, war killed him."
While many criticised Sehwag for comparing a cricket match to a war, others, including actor Randeep Hooda, cheered for the cricketer, saying, “She [Gurmehar Kaur] is being made a pawn.”
“Really sweet of you to encourage the hate I’ve been receiving. Makes me feel happy that I adored your work :) Pawn? I can think. I don’t support violence perpetuated on students? Is that so wrong (sic),” Ms. Kaur, in a series of tweets, replied to Mr.Hooda’s comment.
“Don’t call me a Martyr’s daughter if that bothers you. I never claimed anything otherwise. You can call me Gurmehar,” she added.
