Parliament was disrupted yet again on Thursday, mainly on Telangana, the Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project and the Cauvery river water dispute.

The Lok Sabha, which was adjourned twice in the morning and once after lunch, could hardly discuss anything due to the din.

In the Rajya Sabha, where there were two adjournments, nothing could be transacted in the morning as BJP and AIADMK members wanted the “Ram Sethu” declared a national monument and the DMK members demanded the speedy implementation of the Sethusamudram project, the petition relating to which is pending before the Supreme Court.

This was the third time this week that the Lok Sabha faced the ire of members of the Congress, the TRS and the TDP from the Telangana region of A.P. seeking Telangana State.

In the Lok Sabha, soon after Speaker Meira Kumar made an obituary reference to the demise of a former member, the TRS, the TDP and some Congress members rushed to the well carrying placards and shouting slogans, demanding Telangana. The placards read: ‘Indecision causing innocent deaths,' and ‘Introduce Telangana Bill, Jai Telangana.'

Cauvery dispute

BJP members from Karnataka carried placards demanding justice for the State in the Cauvery water dispute. Members from the State also wanted a relief package to tackle drought. The BJP had given a notice for the suspension of question hour on the issue.

Earlier, BJP MPs staged a protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the complex on the Cauvery issue.

Shiv Sena members, along with some BJP MPs from Maharashtra, demanded that the Rs. 2,606-crore package for Vidarbha be implemented.

S.K. Bwiswmuthiary (Independent) raised the Bodoland issue.

The House, which was adjourned till noon due to the disruption, was adjourned again till 2 p.m. after “papers were laid” by some members and Norway child custody issue was discussed amid pandemonium.

Similarly, the Rajya Sabha was first adjourned for 15 minutes from 11 a.m. and again till 2 p.m. due to slogan-shouting by members.

M. Venkaiah Naidu (BJP) wanted “Ram Sethu” declared a national heritage.

Gundu Sudha Rani (TDP) moved towards the well with a banner in support of Telangana.
