Spurning the offer made by the government, the All-India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) on Saturday reiterated its decision to proceed on an indefinite strike from December 5 to press its charter of demands.
Charging that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways failed to provide any solution during their discussion on Friday, AIMTC president G.R. Shanmugappa said their main demand was implementation of the toll rules of 1977, pertaining to vehicle category and toll rates on national highways.
The AITMC stuck to its earlier deadline for the government to concede its demands, failing which 70,000 truckers across the country would stop plying from December 5.
The truckers have opposed the policy of charging toll-tax in perpetuity.
