Tamil Nadu police helped its Tripura counterpart to arrest three absconding tribal youths, accused of raping a minor girl in south Tripura.
The gang rape accused youths detained at Taramani in Chennai were being brought to Agartala on Saturday.
A senior officer at the Triprua police headquarters informed that the minor girl was raped by five youths at a tribal hamlet in R.K. Pur Police Station limit on November 1 last.
The police swung into action after mother of the victim lodged a complaint and arrested one Arpan Jamatia.
“In course of investigation we tracked down three accused in Chennai.
They went there via Delhi and joined a private security service” he said adding the matter was immediately brought to notice of the Tamil Nadu police that subsequently extended cooperation.
The police are still not sure about whereabouts of the fifth rape accused, Binay Jamatia.
Tripura police sent a special team to Chennai and it succeeded arresting Hridai Jamatia, Surjo alias Sangsa Jamatia and Karna Sadan Jamatia with help of Tamil Nadu police on Friday.
They were working as security staff in a private security agency.
One Mangal Debbarma was also arrested with the three at Chennai on charge of providing shelter to the accused.
Interestingly Mangal was also wanted in connection with rape that he committed in R.K. Pur Police Station area in 2011 and fled the State to evade arrest.
The Triprua police team was on its way back with fthe our arrested persons after obtaining a transit remand from a court in Chennai.
